Year of Manufacture *: 2002
Engine Code or CC *: Y20 DTH
( Optional ) Scanner Used: GM Tech 2
Symptoms are - When engine is hot, accelerate hard and after a few seconds, engine light comes on and it looses boost pressure.
Codes stored are:-
P0105 Critical malfunction 1
P1100 Critical malfunction 2
When it first came to me, the boost pressure was fluctuating under full throttle. Located this to the boost control valve. New one fitted, cured surging but still logged above codes.
Further investigation revealed a faulty non genuine MAP sensor reading 0.2 bar above atmospheric pressure even with engine off. Replaced with genuine part but still the above codes come back.
I know the MAF has been changed as well and I'm beginning to wonder if this could also be wrong.
The live data at point of failure is -
Accelerator pos 100%
MAF 1281 mg/stoke
Boost press command 1.94 Bar
Boost press 1.95 bar
Intake air temp 66 deg F
Engine temp 96 deg F
Boost pulse ratio 43.8%
EGR Command 1300 mg/stroke
EGR pulse ratio 3%
Peak MAF and boost I've seen is 1426 mg/st and 2.06 bar.
Vacuum system has be thoroughly checked. Vacuum at idle is -66 KPA. EGR has been removed, cleaned and tested both with vacuum and Tech 2. I've found that the vacuum actuator for the swirl flaps doesn't work. Not sure whether this would have an effect or not. I can't see how this could have an effect on the over all airflow reading through the MAF.
I've even checked and updated ECU software version, just in case!
Has anyone got any live data to confirm my MAF readings? I'm reluctant to fit yet more parts unless I'm 100% sure. Customer is getting very nervous.
