Regards
I may have been a little too subtle in my previous relpy. I said that....
"""More often these days we are seeing a warning message, that draws attention to a glow device error. The reason I suppose is that their main function is to improve combustion during the warm up phase & therefore reduce emissions."""
The DTC & definition given, is pointing toward a Glow Device Error. I was distracted by the "hard start" discussion sorry.
When you look at the way engine management fault codes have evolved in recent years, it is quite apparent that emissions legislation is a major influence. It was possible to bypass or blank an EGR valve in 2002 without too many comebacks, bit not anymore.
Although glow plugs play no part in cold start (at least in the UK climate), they are still considered important for purposes of emissions control. It is for this reason that the drivers attention is drawn toward their failure. In the same way that the driver is warned about a partially deteriorated catalyst on a petrol vehicle (i.e. P0420). I think it will soon be the case that a relatively minor fault like the ones discussed, will not only cause a the illumination of the MIL, but might also instigate a limited operation strategy (limp home state). Great news for repairers!
