We looked at this van due to a loud chuffing noise from the engine and fumes entering the cab.
As you probably already realize the was caused by a leaking injector seal.
Upon removing the injector a large deep groove was visible in the injector seat, caused by the escaping compression gasses.
Under normal circumstances this writes off the cylinder head and as far as the customer was concerned in this case the van.
We agreed to try a fix and cut the seat down until the groove was gone, then made a bespoke insert to bring the injector back to the correct height and be able to seal again.
So far the customer has done several hundred miles without the seal failing again
sorry the pictures a bit blurred but i think you get the drift from it
It's not just a case of a quick seat cut and a new seal , I had to cut 6mm's out. I tried four seat cutters first 2 were brand new all cleaned the seat but I would have been there all day trying to cut the 6 mil they just skimmed the surface. You need to get the new seat perfectly flat and good enough to seal against then I had to make a new sealing washer the correct size to ensure the tip of the injector was at the correct height. I ended up making a cutter that fit the hole so it was guided and couldn't go off line and into the water jacket, and also so I could control the depth it cut. it took a while but I was really pleased with the result. I asked around my usual suppliers to try to get a bigger seal and looked on the internet but no one could help, hence I had to make it. I'm now adding it to the line up of mobile jobs we offer out.... Another first !! (We were the first to offer a mobile seized injector removal service years ago)
