Brought in from another garage with fault being unable to select Auto mode but 'Manual' mode working ok, no faults stored in transmission module and live data showing stick moving across to 'Auto' position ok, when road tested it lacked performance, scanned engine ecu sure enough air mass meter fault logged, new AMM fitted and 'Auto' mode selection restored (and full power!) Incidentally I had a BMW 320i 2002 the following day with proper auto box and disconnecting AMM logs fault in trans module and illuminates gear symbol MIL on dash.

Probably some of you are aware of this AMM link to auto box problems but may save someone some time
