stippling / dot matrix Posted by Susan D. WAlter on April 6, 2021, 11:26 pm Hello, I was wondering how the stippling (sometimes called dot matrix) in areas that appear solid on transferwares were made. If you look at the "solid" areas around the palmettos of the marley on Claremont TCC#6337; that is what I'm inquiring about. With a magnifying glass theyse areas are composed of lots of dots. Were they pricked with a needle? Or was there some sort of mesh impressed into the copper plate? Thanks!

Re: stippling / dot matrix Posted by Len on April 9, 2021, 7:43 pm, in reply to "stippling / dot matrix" The dots or stippling was done by the engraver of the copper plate from which the pattern was taken, using a punch and hammer. Very painstaking work, a pattern could take weeks or months to engrave.
