Hello everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help identify the maker of this antique transferware handled cake plate.
Details:
Pattern name on backstamp: Bird Eye
Initial below pattern name: M
Hand-painted number: 2754 (possibly 2954, but I believe 2754)
Approximate size: 10" × 8¾"
Black transfer print with hand-colored pink floral decoration
Unmarked as to manufacturer
Secondary small intertwined circular factory/decorator's mark on the reverse.
Based on my research, I believe it is English Staffordshire transferware, likely dating somewhere around 1835–1865, but I have not been able to identify the pottery or find another example of this exact pattern.
The tray is in very good antique condition with no cracks or repairs. There are only a few tiny flea bites/chips on the underside of one handle. The transfer also has a few small original skips or registration imperfections that appear consistent with early production.
I'm primarily trying to determine:
Who made the Bird Eye pattern?
Is the "M" part of the maker's mark or simply a factory designation?
Does anyone recognize pattern number 2754 (or possibly 2954)?
Does the small intertwined circular symbol represent a known decorator or factory mark?
Any estimate on value?
I've attached photos of the front, backstamp, close-ups of the pattern, measurements, and the secondary mark.
Any information or references would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and expertise!
