I saw the tiles in the off-campus house my niece was living in during her senior year at Oberlin College in Ohio. It was part of the surround for the boarded-up fireplace. This was 25 years ago so I only have one snapshot of four tiles and there is some glare from the camera flash.
I fell in love with the tile pattern and have kept the photo all these years. I have seen a lot of transferware tiles but this pattern is unique in that it is two patterns, one being the mirror image of the other. They are aligned so that the two thorned branches connect between adjacent tiles. I believe the image is a Hawthorn tree.
Oberlin College gave me my niece's address but before I tell you, I am going to write to the "Current Occupant" to see if the tiles are still there. I've attached the photo.
