Connie, thanks for confirming the ID/type on this set. The little bowls/cups appear to be a paneled, handleless variation of London style bowls/cups as described by George Miller in his "Common Staffordshire Cup and Bowl Shapes" (2011). In his article he states that "This shape is clearly the dominant one used from ca. 1825 into the 1840s, when it begins to be replaced by double curve shape cups." He describes five basic forms but there were many variations on some of these forms. Handles on cups from the 1840s/1850s aren’t all that common in my experience. At least in the Midwest, it was common for pioneer families to have a tea/coffee set that was different than the main dining dish set (often consisting of transferwares). It should be kept in mind that during the mid 19th century coffee became a popular drink of choice as well as tea. Again, taking everything in to consideration, I would put this set in a ‘most likely’ timeframe of mid 1840s to mid 1850s. Tim
