OK, we weren’t Rinus Michel’s Ajax, but there was a coherence and a sense of direction in our play, and a sense that players knew their positions and had the freedom to try things, which felt very different from the “do your job” approach we’ve seen so much of in the PL years. And there was a lot going on in terms of squad composition, Covid, and all that, and the burglary, and whatnot. I still maintain that we were lucky to have CA, one of the greatest managers in the history of the sport, and I wish we had had more time and more money with him.
