It was the Thatcher/Reaganomics era. For a lot of people in their teens and twenties Live Aid was political as well as charitable. A message that we did believe in society and on a global scale. As a concert it was a curate’s egg. As a charity the UK was cleaner than the USA. As a statement it paved the way for the Blair/Clinton era for good or ill. Quite a few future Labour MPs were in the crowd that day. These days their fresh faced ambitious counterparts would be demanding the police break it up due to noise, drugs etc.
