Handball is the law in football that is the biggest mess and multiple attempts to solve it just lead to more confusion for everyone.
Like the ricochet element to the rule, on the VAR they first focus on if it came off Mykolenko’s thigh - if it did then the handball would be irrelevant but a lot of people wouldn’t understand that!
Unfortunately as a referee you just don’t know if something was deliberate or not but generally you can identify something that was either a movement to the ball or gives a player a significant advantage as a result of handling it.
I’ve no idea how they fix the mess it whatever it is I don’t think they have finished messing with it in search of something better.

these handball decisions are ridiculous. Ball is often hit at spewed over a very short distance yand defenders arms ARE in a natural position eg you can't run or jump naturally without raising your arms. It's unnatural to run with your hands behind your back.
I don't really understand why the handball offence was changed in the first place. It should be for deliberate or reckless handball.
If that referee hadn't been strong enough enough a penalty would be awarded incorrectly. Previous Message
Mic'd up
I know a few on here said they'd be interested in this, its now available on the link above.
Referee gets it absolutely spot on here and the discussion as to why he makes his decision is very clear.
I hope it gives others the confidence to stick to their interpretation in the future.
