Any Chicagoland fans of Northwestern Medicine here?

While visting home last week and assisting my dad who suffered a recent fall, dad related that Northwestern is an absolute bureaucratic nightmare to deal with. Even more so because dad does not have / use either a cellphone or a computer. He cannot even walk into his family physician's office (5 minutes from his house) and schedule an appointment because all scheduling has to be routed through Northwestern's central system. And while that can be done via a landline, it takes forever with long wait times and multiple levels of bureaucracy before you finally get the right extension and the person you are trying to reach.

Guns. Have them.

yeah, they got very portal driven the last 5-10 years, but docs responded to messaging quickly, easy to submit refill requests, etc.

While I was home, I drove him to an appointment there. I though the place was pretty impressive 8 years ago when dad had his surgery. It is even more impressive now.

have socialized medicine, part of the way they have achieved it is cramming down doctor pay and not sinking a nickel of capital into the hospital system. Most of the hospitals are from the '70's and show every minute of their age. Americans would riot.

We know a couple who moved there, Japanese wife, husband was a white guy who had grown up in Poland and moved to Chicago in high school. This dude is a couple years older than me and lived under actual, legitimate communism. Their daughter, who was under 1 at the time, had an ear infection. They go to the hospital. This Polish dude took one look at the hospital and noped out instantly. They were back in Chicago within weeks.

Leftists have absolutely no concept of how nice the United States actually is and how much it has improved over the past few decades.

Very impressive resume. One of the top guys in all of Chicagoland (or so it seemed).

At about this same time, the father of a good friend was also having heart surgery at a hospital here in Lexington. A hospital with a generally has a good reputation. From my few brief visits to see my friend's dad, there was really no comparison between the level of care he received and what my dad received in Winfield.

a few years ago for the adrenal tumors. I mean, I didn't find it any more of a redtapey/jump through hoops nightmare than anywhere else, I guess? I also went up to University of Chicago this past spring and it wasn't too bad (other than the line for the valet parking..whoa)

Without a computer, it is much tougher to do medical things anymore..they all use the "portal"..but if you refuse they do still call the old school way. My friend and some older people I know refuse the "portal" interaction and while it may take a litle longer, they still get the calls.

My new Pain Clinic Doc who does my spinal injections refuses to use the computer for communication (has no "portal"), and it was wild to hear that! I figured the hospital he is connected with (physically in the building) would make him use it.

the productivity of a group if you give them a phone number. I worked the nationwide phones for AARP Motor Club back in the 1900's and have seen this firsthand. It sucks, but I totally get where the admins are coming from on firewalling everything.
