And it's OBVIOUS that one of the challenges in the Muslim world is suppression of knowledge, or at least a treatment of science and inquiry as less important than in the West. Focus on obedience to religion authority has its consequences.

It's well known that at some point in human history, what used to be a competitive Arab civilization fell way behind. And you can debate how that happened.

A similar disregard for the West happened in China, when various Chinese empires decided they were tops in the world and had little to learn from outside China. That's one reason they stopped exploring other territories and did not try to build a non-Chinese empire. But then the 19th century came along and the British and others showed the Chinese how far behind they had fallen.

Just bought the Villainess a Model Y L an hour ago. We did an extended 24 hour test drive

yesterday and today. The Model Y is just an incredible vehicle and the FSD is incredible. Actual driving is for peasants now.

We didn't test drive the Y L because they only have one at the dealer and it's the display unit inside the building but after sitting in it we knew we wanted the larger size, 6 seat configuration and nicer seats.

Easiest car buying process ever. It took 4 minutes to complete the transaction and 2.5 of those were just adding my buddy's referral code so we each got an additional 3 months of FSD free. The Model Y L has a huge backlog at the moment so we won't get it until Jan-March time frame but other than that the entire process was 11/10. Would buy again.

I assume you can’t be wasted and use it but you can read/play on your phone while on the self driving feature?

If so, my drives to Champaign and back are a lot easier.

and look at the road. Get 5 alerts and it kicks you out of FSD and gives you a strike. Get 5 strikes and it puts you in a penalty box for a few days.

Having said that, there are many work arounds for this....easiest of all, just hold your phone near the large touchscreen or have it mounted with a magnetic holder that attaches to the touchscreen and the rear facing camera will never give you alerts because it thinks you are looking forward/at the screen.

The 2027 Tesla Model 3 Long Range / Dual-Motor AWD has an EPA-estimated range of 346 to 358 miles under normal conditions. In cold weather, expect a real-world range drop of 15% to 30% under standard winter conditions, and up to 40% in extreme sub-zero temperatures (below -10°F to -20°C).

Expected Cold-Weather Range Breakdown

• Mild to Moderate Winter (30°F / 0°C): Real-world range typically drops to roughly 240 to 300 miles.
• Severe Winter / Sub-Zero (-4°F to -22°F / -12°C to -30°C): Real-world range can fall to around 210 to 250 miles (or a 35%–40% reduction from ideal EPA ratings).

Posted by WesMantooth User icon on October 27, 2026, 11:24:12, in reply to "Just bought the Villainess a Model Y L an hour ago. We did an extended 24 hour test drive"

2016 Mazda 3 with 77k

2016 BMW 428i with 30,500

2024 Ford Maverick Hyrbid with 28k. Just purchased a warranty for 6 more years and up to 100k miles total when our manufacturer warranty runs out in late November.

The 1st one to go will probably be my Mazda 3 but I still enjoy driving it and it has been super reliable. Might even get rid of it and just keep the other 2 since I’m work from home and then retiring in about 3.5 years.

I’m interested to see if I sell the 3 how much I can grow the $6-7k I’ll get for it into before it’s time to buy another car.

Lexus and Toyota and Mazda would be our 3 brands I’d consider.

Posted by villain User icon on October 27, 2026, 14:00:59, in reply to "What’s your opinion between the base AWD, premium AWD, and performance AWD?"
Stupidhead

It has every bell and whistle that most people will want. The base doesn't come with the glass roof which was a deal breaker on that level for me.

The regular Model Y does 0-60 in 4.3 seconds so that is already blazing fast....Performance isn't worth it IMO. If you want something faster, buy a used 911.

I'd definitely consider the Y L though. The extra room was nice and I really prefer the 6 seat configuration for our family. Right now you can only get it in the Launch model which is $62k, but once they fill those orders, they'll start selling a base and regular premium version of it for cheaper. That may be 6-9 months away though so it may or may not be an option depending on your timing.

The Frontier replaced a 2005 GMC Sierra and is nearly as big as full size pickups were in 20th century. I had a 2001 Xterra when they first came out and loved it and the Frontier is built on the same frame. The seats are as comfortable for taller people as a full size pickup.

I would love to get another Acadia because the size is perfect and my wife loves the way it drives (fast). It has a 3.6 V6 and gets 28-29 MPG on the highway with plenty of power. They replaced the V6 with a 2.5 4 cyl turbo in 2024 due the EPA requirements. I won't buy one of those, especially with a driver that is in a race to get everywhere. The engine would never see 100K miles.

pull the trigger this weekend potentially. Her Odyssey is a 2015 with 206K miles, but it's still in pristine condition and has no issues other than needing a brake job sometime soon. It's also amazing to have to haul just about anything.

The potential replacements:

1. Tesla Model Y Premium
2. Honda Odyssey EX-L
3. Honda Pilot Sport
4. Toyota Grand Highlander Limited
5. Toyota Sienna Limited

We test drove the Tesla this past Saturday and it was a hit. There is absolutely nothing that compares with self driving. It's beyond a game changer. We also went to look at the 2 Hondas after that. The Pilot is nice, but it was eliminated from contention. It's just a slightly larger version of my 4Runner. It doesn't offer the space and functionality of the Odyssey or the safety/technology of the Model Y.

We ran out of time so we didn't go to Toyota, but she isn't really a fan of the Sienna and the Grand Highlander is again just a slightly larger, more expensive version of my 4Runner so I think those may be eliminated.

I've suggested we just do the brakes on her 2015 Odyssey and keep it as our 3rd car for when we need to haul stuff or fit 8 people and then also buy the Model Y. She's coming around to the idea because she secretly loves the self driving and safety, she just doesn't want to admit that I was right about it. Tesla is letting us do a 24 hour demo on Sunday so I think we'll pull the trigger on the Model Y or the Odyssey after.

I really want her to pick the Model Y because I think it is the best option by far, but also because I don't want to play the stupid dealer games. Just the 45 minutes I dealt with the Honda guy last Saturday pissed me off. They literally offered me $325 as a trade in offer on the van which has a private party resale of $8,000. I've also had every single recommended service on that vehicle done at that dealer for the last 10 years. One would think that you'd want to keep that type of customer. He also neglected to mention the manufacturer discounts when discussing pricing. I didn't bother to engage because I wasn't ready to buy so I didn't want to waste my time, but their song and dance routine is so dated and annoying. With Tesla I can literally press 8 buttons on my phone and buy the car in 5 minutes or less.

Great vehicle. IMO, hybrid is the way to go - gas mileage and stay away from potential transmission issues. Stay away from the moonroof (lots of reports of leakage). Due to my poorness and local availability we went with the XLE and are quite happy.

Posted by villain User icon on October 21, 2026, 12:26:07, in reply to "That's cool. My dealership actually has a couple of used Rav4s for sale."

Most dealerships make the bulk of their money by getting incentive bonuses from the manufacturers for hitting certain monthly and annual quotas.

If your dealership is close on that annual number they will sell vehicles at a massive loss just to hit it. They'll eat $10k on 15 vehicles in a day because it could be the difference in getting a half million dollar bonus. I've known dealership management buying like 2-3 cars each that day just to make it happen.

Something to consider if that is your time frame. Just cast a wide net of Honda and Toyota dealers 2 hours from you about 4-5 days before the end of the year and see how desperate they get over the last day or two of the year.

Those end of the year sales can be awesome. And then January and February are traditionally notoriously poor months for most dealerships. December is such a hectic month for me and I will spend much of the end of the year in IL with the family. Purchasing a car then will likley provde difficult.

for actual Americans, increase health care premiums, drive up housing prices, and commit crimes at a significantly disproportionate rate vs. Americans.

This goes the same for "legal" H1B visa holders and similar with whom 90% are here on false pretenses/false documents/fake credentials.

I don't even live in an area that is greatly overrun with them, but my small business and others like mine are greatly affected by them.

There is a fence company in town that now has almost every home builder commercial contract to do fencing on new homes. Everytime I see them out on a jobsite, it's 4-5 Guatemalans or Mexicans and 1 white guy who speaks spanish supervising them.

I have 1 main competitor for my carport company in a 3 state region. It is the same exact setup. I was just underpriced by 12% on a project in my own backyard. I got the metal railings contract but missed out on a $280k carport contract because the competitor uses a team of Mexicans who will sleep in their cars and work 14 hours a day 7 days a week until the project is complete. I play by the rules so I can't compete.

I've told my guys to immediately call ICE on them if they ever see their crews on a jobsite. If they played by the rules I'd get probably double the amount of carport projects and I'd be able to (and would) pay my guys 2x what I pay them now.

Same with my fencing company. That is a 0-10% net margin business year to year. I struggle to give them raises to keep pace with inflation. I want to do more, but simply cannot because I'm fighting people who use illegal labor and they depress the market rate for the service. I'd exit that business altogether if it wouldn't make those employees jobless. If I close up that part of my business, then those guys aren't getting hired by the competitor who uses 90% illegals...they'd just be effed.

Don't use businesses who use illegal labor. You are just fucking over American families...most of which are already disadvantaged and toiling at the bottom rung of the economy.

Would you consider buying a Buick or Chevy these days? Hyundai or Kia? I want a vehicle that is going to last 6-7 years and hit 125-150k miles with few, if any, problems of note.

Will come off lease. Tesla ran a crazy lease deal 3 years ago and just now they are all coming off of their three-year term. That means if you wait two or three months, the market should be fairly saturated for a used model three(same with model Ys), and you should be able to get a great price on one. If the model Y market drops 4 to 5K., I want to snag one.

The batteries should go for hundreds of thousands of miles.
You have basically no maintenance other than tire tires and brakes.
Its technology is unparalleled in the US.

Do you still expect the used tesla model 3 and Y market to move downward over the next 4-6 months as a significant number of leases end?

Yes — but I’d temper my earlier expectation of how large the drop will be.

The lease-return thesis is playing out: EVs were about 10% of off-lease supply in H1 2026, ~16% in H2, and are projected to approach 19% by summer 2027. Total off-lease volume is also rising from roughly 190,000/month in H1 to 220,000/month in H2. Model 3 and Model Y are specifically expected to be among the highest-volume off-lease EVs.

But demand has been considerably stronger than I would have expected. Used EV retail sales just hit a record in Q3, and prices are actually about 8% higher YoY. Model Y in particular has been selling quickly.

Right now, October data show average dealer asking prices around $26,545 for Model 3 and $33,992 for Model Y, and both actually increased in the last month.
My updated 4–6 month outlook

From October 2026 through roughly February–April 2027, I still think the risk/reward favors waiting if you don't need the car immediately.
Vehicle Current avg. asking My spring 2027 expectation
Model 3 ~$26,500 $23,500–$25,500
Model Y ~$34,000 $30,000–$32,500
2024 Model Y LR AWD ~$30–35K depending mileage ~$28–32K
2024 Model 3 LR AWD ~$27–31K ~$24–28K

Those are my estimates, not published forecasts. I think something like another 5–10% decline is quite plausible; I no longer think a broad 15–20% collapse is the base case because buyers are absorbing the added supply surprisingly well.

There's also an important factor for your particular search: you were looking for a used Model Y with HW4, which effectively pushes you toward 2023½/2024+ vehicles. Those are exactly the cars that should become increasingly common as 2024 leases mature during 2027. More than half of used EV listings are already 2023–2024 vehicles.

So if I were trying to buy a 2024 Model Y Long Range AWD, HW4, ~25–40K miles, I would probably wait until January–March 2027, unless you find an unusually attractive deal now. That's where I think the combination of lease returns, winter seasonality, and increased dealer competition gives you a better shot at a sub-$30K Model Y LR AWD.

One caveat: used EV prices rose substantially earlier this year because demand strengthened, so gasoline prices, Tesla's new-car pricing/incentives, and interest rates could easily overpower the lease-return effect. Cox says the growing off-lease supply has so far been absorbed without overwhelming the market.

Bottom line: I still favor waiting 4–6 months, but today I'd expect roughly $2,000–$4,000 of additional savings on the type of Model Y you're considering, rather than assuming a dramatic price crash.

from the ease of your own garage (yes, that is the cost for Kentucky), there are still hundreds of charging stations in Kentucky where you can go from 20% to 80% charge in 20 minutes. I get that if you drive 350 miles a day some people wouldn't want to deal with the 20 minute wait vs a 5 minute fill up, but most people don't drive 350 miles a day.

If you're looking why not look in Cincinatti and Louisville as well? See if you can get everything done over the phone and maybe just have the car delivered? Or look somewhere like Carmax?

If you're looking pre-owned (which you should be) just look at all the local dealerships and look for a few, 2-3 year old Mazdas with low mileage?

They are nearly maintenance free...you can do basic yourself I'd assume and anything beyond that it's not like you want to take it to a dealership anyway.

I could go back to Carmax. That is where I purchased my Mustang back in 2008 (albeit at the Louisville location, not the Lexington location 10 minutes from me). Not certain I want to purchase a used daily driver. But that having been said, I have looked at some. If I go for something with a higher sticker price, looking at something a couple of years old may be the way to go.

Meaning one had 8000 miles and the other like 27000 miles.

Personally I’d rather have those because one…they’re significantly cheaper. Two…and maybe falsely…I figure they’re just through the break in period where any manufacturing issues would have had to already come to light.

But I think the longer you anticipate keeping the car, the less important that depreciation concern is.

Growing up, dad didn't like to keep a car more than about 4 years. Because the American made cars he was buying had suspect long-term reliability. Any car I buy is going to be kept at least 6 years. Likely longer.

The fact that people start to have worry over Chevys when they hit 90k miles vs Toyota and Honda owners not feeling the same anxiety until a 190k miles is wild to me. I just don't understand why people buy them. Roll back the clock 40 years ago and I'd understand the Buy American mantra for the reasoning, but most Hondas and Toyotas are more American made than Chevys today.

Version of a Chrysler Pacifica. The ride was fine and it drove well and sat up which I prefer versus sitting low in a car.

Funny thing about the whole rental was that I returned it at the due time and then got charged around $400 the next week for something. Went in and they said the charges were because I still had it. I didn’t. Took them another week to get things resolved and knocked off $50 for the trouble. Hard to argue about $160 for a week and unlimited miles. I think I put around 1000 miles on it.

We all know the right thing to do is to call them and ask about it. If you want to be shady you do nothing. When they send you the bill (which you know will come) you just pay it. If they don't you can just keep your mouth shut. But if that is your plan, don't ask your fake internet friends for permission. Because that's what he wants. He want them to tell him it's ok to try to get out of the bill.
