The fam and I went snorkeling near Captain Cook in Hawaii today. We were on a small inflatable rib with 2 other families. One that we chatted up was a family about 10 years older than us or so from Wisconsin.

The dad had navy adjacent tattoos all over and was very comfortable in the water. We were shooting the shit about different oceans and he was talking about training with rebreathers and 2 mile pitch black night swims.

Based on where he told me he trained he was a Special Ops Marine Combat Diver.

I’m not entirely certain, but I think those guys are pretty elite soldiers.

I would bet that when random guys find out that a friendly fella like yourself has a background in your business, it can often be good for some good conversation.

I know wine snobs can be insufferable. Maybe that’s less likely among fans of harder stuff.

And there’s likely people in every single bar I go into with more refined palates than I have. My true love in the industry is spirits production…which I probably know more about than like 95-99% of the general population.

The only thing I find annoying are “pony tail guy” with massive opinions on “terrior” or distillation technique that’s never manned a still for a shift or worked a few days in a production distillery.
