This run of Les Paul's specifically did NOT come with a pick guard. But I love the look of a les paul with a cream pick guard.

Am I crazy for installing one? I would have a luthier do it with OEM parts.

I don't really care about re-sale value. Either I keep it forever or if i sell it it will be just clear space. This isn't an investment to me.

first off, do you think it's a bad idea?

next, i'm not putting a screw hole in this thing myself. I'm sure he wouldn't charge much. plus i need him to look at something. i realized that the last owner (via a luthier) removed the varnish from the back of the neck and head. And they refinished it professionally so there is no issue with it. but it did take the serial number off of the back. so i'm hoping he can bring that out. i don't need it for anything specifically but I just want it.

I don’t think your guitar is stolen, but were it a more expensive one I’d be worried that it was. Adding or deleting a serial number isn’t something I’d do. It’s like altering the vin on your car or the serial number on a gun. It’s kinda a no no.

If you really want one, have the your birthdate or something stamped into it.

i know it's "possible" but it depends on how deep the stamp went.

I mean this thing is a machine. I upgraded to a Fender 25 watt amp

it's a modeling amp but it jams. I play daily. Sometimes 15 minutes. Sometimes 2-3 hours.

I am steadily improving. I can feel it and hear it.

I'm just loving it.

Often times when i can't play i stare and my callouses and dream that i am.

I decided that a 335 and 339 were a bit too big for me. At least for now. So I found a good deal for this guy. But my question is to you, I'm thinking about having a pick guard installed professionally. (won't cost much) because i really like the look. Please give me your thoughts.

Get it now! (Assuming it’s under / around 500 bucks)…

When you have the pick guard installed have the tech turn the neck pickup back around.

Whoever owned this was a big Peter Green / Gary Moore / Kirk Hammett fan and flipped the pickup to emulate “Greeny”.

so i meet the guy and see the guitar. it's a bit older than i thought but i didn't care. it felt strong and sturdy. the action on the strings was low. the way i wanted. i felt i could fly with this thing. it came with the original case. a nice fur lined custom case just for the guitar.

he said to me. "Do you know Peter Green?" I lol'd I said I showed the pics to a guy I know who knows about guitars and he said "I bet that guy is a Pete Green fan." And then he explained the Hammet connection.

Best part of the story. $300.

...you can get jazzy tones from the neck pickup on that Les Paul. But you can also get them from the 335...plus it'll have more tone unplugged.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. You're gonna love them both. Pick whichever inspires you to play more.

It’s a 339. If it were at 330 or a casino I’d be all over it for 450 or under. The 339 is a no from me at any price because it’s a shrunk down 330. Essentially the same body width as your Les Paul.

I feel like you want a true, full sized hollow body. I don’t think you’d be content with this for the rest of the year.

Other thing, on guitars in this price point, see if you can feel the neck. Run your hand up and down the neck feeling the fret ends. Sometimes they’re poorly seated and will feel “sharp”. No only is it uncomfortable it can cause wicked buzzing.

I’m not saying this one does. It’s just the number one thing I’d watch out on guitars in this price range. Poor fretwork and then if that neck dries out they can start to sprout even more.

But again, it’s 200 bucks…not 2000. Have fun!

its a Epiphone ES-339 Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar Cherry.

i like my beginner epiphone but i'm looking for this for tone. it's a step up from what i have but not a huge step up.

i started to play a lot like every day in december. if i play for a year i'm looking a buying a real Gibson.

I guess I'd ask if this is a worthwhile step between now and your Gibson..

Like I said, I don't know. I've never played electric really. Been playing acoustic since the early 80s. Not even an acoustic electric...which is something I wanted before chemo destroyed my dexterity/finger stamina and essentially my guitar playing.
