And they’re building this across the street. I tried to get existing stock in frame for reference. But that said, this is directly on a streetcar line in a retail corridor so it seems alright to me.

Would I want this directly next to me? No, but our lot sizes aren’t even big enough to allow for this in the first place. This development took the place of a gas station that had been abandoned for 15 years.

In the scope of things…I’m all for more of this but can understand why you might not be as it seems like your area is quite a bit less urbanized that mine is at current.

That look likes a couple of mixed business districts near me. fine.

I'm actually in favor of both of these. I'd like it to be even easier than this to build...

Unless your building restrictions are different than what's proposed here...

...and my understanding of the bill...you're only allowing infill, multifamily housing along existing transit corridors and all this does is get rid of extensive environmental review requirements that really do nothing in CA other than provide one more neighborhood cudgel to NIMBYs.

So, for example..."Noriega St" is the nearest bus line to me. It's about 2 blocks east of me. It's currently dotted with commercial and residential. A significant amount of single family residential.

This law says that if someone wants to purchase a single family home along this transit corridor and put up a duplex, they aren't subject to the CEQA reviews.

In my instance, San Francisco has approved upzoning to allow 65ft-85ft buildings along here dependent on location...instead of restricting to single family homes.

I don't believe this will destroy my property value and I don't believe very many of these will actually get built. It's just removing a NIMBY tool of obstruction on projects like this.

These are the sorta things they're talking about making it easier to do. I'm all in. I already live in an urban area. We shouldn't have frozen development and density in 1980 under the guise of "preservation" and environmental law.

NIMBY applies to the liberal assholes who decry that we need more affordable housing but refuse to allow it in their neighborhood.

Not wanting apartments in your single family home neighborhood isn't NIMBY. I bought in this neighborhood because it was single family. Turning it into apartment buildings with section 8s is bullshit.

Here's a good summary:

A single-family home gets sold to a developer
They see a big lot, near a transit line, maybe not far from a grocery store or school. Boom — it’s “infill.”

They propose a small apartment building (maybe 4–10 units)
No CEQA review. No environmental pushback. Just basic zoning and permitting — which is getting looser by the year.

You and your neighbors try to fight it… but there’s no “process” left
CEQA used to be your shield. Now it’s gone. No hearings, no delays, no legal stall-outs.

Construction starts
And now there’s dust, noise, work crews, and eventually — less parking and new foot traffic.

A quick google street view of your neighborhood (I'm pretty sure your neighbrhood)...

...shows me that major thoroughfares already have tons of multiple unit apartment houses. There's already less in-fill to be had.

Are you worried that someone is going to put up a 5 story apartment building right next door to you?

Is a majority of your street ranch style houses? I guess it just feels different to me...

...because we're already all 2 story houses. Our houses already touch at the walls. People (if they have the money) already extend up another story for 3 stories. People already subdivide houses into duplexes.

Codifying it and saying "we're going to put up a 3 story / 3 unit building like the rest of the city has" doesn't seem like a big deal to me. Even if it were right next door to me.

I live in a city. Those are city things.

and there is a mix of houses. most are ranch but there are many two stories. and a few mc-mansions and persian palaces that no one likes.
