and ive conformed for the most part with all forms of the board
my panic point isnt with the moderation. its with the formatting. that was the death of the deuce.

This place was born on the IB and is still filled with (who I consider to be) IBers and perhaps would live best if linked back with the IB. It could be something as simple as using the Boardhost format and just linking a page at the top of the site as "The Deuce". The way we do forums is different (and soon to change to be tied in with comments under articles), so a separate off-topic board with a different format would be fine with me.
The drawbacks:
1) It's public again. There's no more hiding in a corner of the internet. N00bs would find us and join. And with all of that, the level of moderation would obviously be heavier. You can't have this wild west environment with n00bs (or even current Illiniboard commenters). This will be a panic point for people like DJ and Villain (who led the charge to shout it down at the beginning of the new-IB), but I can't see any other way.
2) The fuzzy concept of an off-topic board tied with a subscription site. The reason I've never pursued it is because it would obviously drive traffic to the site, and I've never wanted to get that muddled with "six free articles but please subscribe for the seventh". It would be a separate login (through Boardhost), so it wouldn't ever be a thing where someone had to be a subscriber to comment or anything like that, but the perception of that is something I've been hesitant to approach.
Also, because of that, I'd use IB money to pay boardhost, so there wouldn't be any need for fundraising.
We'd need to find mods, but since Haighter took my PM's with Grill and Yoyo public (below), I figured we should talk about it. I'm open to making this link (and Brumby confirmed via text that he'd be good with it - he just doesn't want to mod), so I figured I would put it out there for feedback.
