An announcement like that doesn't just happen, so when they do, you should listen. If the government thought there was a 3% chance of SHTF, this is what they'd do. It likely won't happen, but there is enough of a probability that they felt it necessary to do so.

Also, when a group of largely successful people all come to independent conclusions that one thing is worth doing, it's probably worth doing.

This is just insurance.
