I think the roots are deeper
this doesn't seem like your average midlife crisis; its roots go much deeper. This is a person that doesn't like himself and so is always trying to change his self-image. In many of the bad male midlife crises I have witnessed, the guy in question did not seriously date very much prior to getting married relatively young. Few, if any long term relationships. And I think some of these guys may even have been virgins before meeting their eventual wives. I think it's only natural for these guys to eventually long for their missed youthful days of wild oats sowing. Or just simply being a young dude without many obligations. Especially when kids arrive relatively soon after marriage.
I am not accusing DD of infidelity. But I do see a guy trying to be 20-something again.
