My Christian worldview is God’s awesome, we (humans) suck, but He is too great to let us fuck everything up forever and has a Plan for whom all Reality was created. Cool story, but some people don’t like it, so they try to say God isn’t real (impossible in the face of Reality) or that we don’t suck and blame religion for the fact we clearly do.

This book and my first visit to Cahokia Mounds were foundational to my pushback that, au contraire mon frere, we do suck and God’s Plan (namely, Jesus) is working. I argue that the New Testament worldviews- of render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s, of embracing self-sacrifice (or at least casting aside eye for an eye), and government’s role being to protect the people- were adopted by Western Civilization leading to better ways to fight war instead of just slaughtering and raping everyone you hated. Middle Europe wasn’t necessarily peaceful but it wasn’t the hellhole non-Christians made the world before tha, although we did still have the genocides of Atheists Mao, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, etc.
