Maybe also "newer" cars just have better materials and paint...because when I see a pre-2000 car still kicking around the neighborhood if it's not a restored car they're usually massively rusted out.
Short answer outta my ass...I have no clue...but I doesn't seem to be as bad as road salt in the upper midwest on cars.

in the air next to the ocean? Everything in Japan within 1-2km of the ocean is rusted to hell because it's a constant fight against all the salt in the air from the ocean and I don't know if that is a problem near you or not.

...and it did come into mind that I should get one with low enough miles that my daughter can drive it in 6 years when she gets her license, if properly maintained.

He instead just got upsold on a lot of stuff he probably didn't need. But this is a vehicle he may end up giving one of his grandkids so he was willing pay extra to make absolutely certain everything was as perfect as it could be.
