Difficult to draw too many conclusions from a single early-season (almost still pre-season) match. For a championship team, Stoke looked seriously under-cooked. Felt we seriously missed Fowunmi. With him on the right wing we might have been an entirely different proposition. Difficult to see how we could get away with playing 2 strikers this season. Kavanagh worked hard without getting any real chances. Fondop also worked hard, but couldn’t hold the ball up. KAF looks an absolute gem. Mom by a mile. Can’t see him playing in L2 next season, but looked like he could have benefited greatly from having a creative advanced midfielder in front of him. Hill or Chilvers?
Central defensive pair looked dodgy. If Stoke strikers had been sharper we could have shipped several.
Net conclusion on that showing: we looked a lot better prepared and ready for start of respective league seasons than Stoke did and would fancy our chances of making top 7/8 in our respective leagues a lot better than theirs.
