I agree to a point Cass, BUT there is a wider angle here and that is the legacy and impact on the, as you put it 'undeserving teams'. The tournaments and qualifiers serve as an upskill in capability of the 'undeserving' teams, operationally, aspirationally and fosters interest in football amongst their population... not to mention the economical impact.
30 years ago the African nations were seen as the undeservers and now the gap has closed and no doubt one of their nations will win a tournaments, hopefully in our lifetimes.
It's important to look beyond the expansion and subsequent teams and see the wider good and opportunity given, otherwise it's a closed shop and the same old teams qualify - remember the Argentina vs Cameroon game? The smaller nations can still contribute.
