In his defence, rather than holding the team back I don’t think we necessarily had the players available to play the way he wanted until recently.

To say we’ve suffered from a spate of injuries would be an understatement.

We lost our influential captain for the season.
The RB position was a major problem with long term injuries sustained by both Ogle & Caprice.

Stevens unfortunately was another who sustained injuries twice and was subsequently unavailable for the best part of half the season.

Well documented personal problems & the Quigley signing definitely affected the performances of Fondop.

Both Hammond & Hawkes suffered bad injuries just as they had began to establish themselves in the side and Drummond who couldn’t hit a cow’s ar** with a banjo was quite definitely a work in progress.

Apart from Caprice, Ogle & Conlon all these players are now back fully fit & firing and the difference has been astounding.

At the turn of the year I was definitely in the ‘Mellon Out’ contingent but he fully deserves his contract extension and if we continue to play this high press attacking style I’m behind him 100%.

If we can make two or three quality signings for next season we could have a very good side on our hands!!
