When we finished last season in a play off position,it looked highly unlikely that we would be the team joining Barnet in Division 2 ,at the end of the play off phase. In fact the most likely (form) scenario was that the club,board of directors,manager and supporters would be looking another season in the National League,in the face! Would Micky Mellon have survived that - I very much doubt he would have been given the chance and in the final year of a three year contract very doubtful. The board would have been bound to take action to safeguard season ticket sales and sate the wrath of the masses! Mellon himself probably had to pinch himself when looking in the shaving mirror and couldn’t believe his luck!
He has been allowed to partly rebuild the squad without any surprises but I think we have all worked out that it all looks very average to date and that is why most of us err on the side of caution. I see no way why Mellon should be part of the rebuild,if further promotions are planned and how the team fare will be critical to his survival to the end of the season.
