It was a very special day BE, I too shed a tear of joy to see our wonderful team at last win a game at the home of football. I was sat with my lovely wife on one side and a really good guy to my right, lj, with Mr Chairman at the end of the row. Cass with his friends were sat in the row in front. What a pleasure it was to be among so many like minded people.
Up at 5am showered and off to BP where everyone was full of joy and happiness. Although it took a little time for the stewards to get things moving it wasn’t too bad getting to the coach and boarding.
Then two or three beers in a pub brimming with tics right next to the stadium. As you can imagine it was bouncing. We got in the stadium quite early to savour the moments, it was an unbelievable atmosphere, when the players came out, well, I’ve never heard anything like it, it sounded like there was 50 thousand of us. Great experience, I’m so happy for the Athleticos, their support has been incredible over some dreadful times and they got their reward with a great win and very exciting game.
All in all a long day but one to be proud of and one that will remain in the memory of those Latics fans who were lucky enough to be there.
Just to say, our club colours really did stand out with orange and blue everywhere as opposed to Southend’s navy and white which you would hardly notice.
Ready for the break and then on to the challenge of league 2.
I see we have a few signings lined up already and the retained list will give us, the board members, something to discuss.
