Agreed Pett was the best player on the pitch but personally would have made Monthe MoM.
What a hero. Clearly nowhere near properly fit. Could barely jog, never mind sprint and was wincing every time he hit a long ball. Was frankly astonished when he came back out for the second half. But he kept at it for a full 135 minutes.
Delighted for the owners and really pleased that all 6 outfield subs got on the pitch and played a part.
Match was a triumph for the (well) over 30's - going on 35s. Pett, Evans, Garner. Norwood etc. How many still want Mellon out now?
In some ways it feels so much better to gain promotion like that, through a 3 round knockout competition culminating in a tense Wembley final, than if we had gone up automatically, through a (say) 3rd place finish in the league.
Enjoy your summer, everybody. We deserve it.
I'm off to Morocco for July to support my wife's team (the Ghana womens national team) in the Africa Cup of Nations.
See you all back on here in August.
