Some years ago, when the Noir City festival programming format revolved around scheduling "double features," as would have been the customary practice in the 1940s, pairing an "A" film with a "B" movie, I asked about whether or not "The Whistler" series from Columbia Pictures would be a possibility for the second features? The suggestion did not meet with much enthusiasm. A few of the Richard Dix films were sufficiently noir in my opinion, having been directed by William Castle and Lew Landers. Some were adapted from Cornell Woolrich stories too.
