I watched Black Tuesday the other day and thought it solid, visually striking - very claustrophobic and oppressive - and displaying a bleak but still thought provoking take on the value of a life, as well as living and dying on one's own terms, or being allowed to do so. Sydney Boehm's writing was characteristically challenging and Cortez lit it wonderfully.
However, I think it's a bit harsh on Fregonese to dismiss his work as no better than that of Sears. I mean I've seen a number of movies by Sears and like them well enough but I've got to say none of them have ever stayed with me or stuck in my mind.
On the other hand, Apache Drums, Harry Black and the Tiger, Saddle Tramp, Blowing Wild, The Raid and Black Tuesday have all made a lasting impression.
