I don't think Eddie was coming back either way, but this news--if there is no other avenue of appeal--means the end of an era of repertory cinema and the loss of the city's last intact movie palace.
Eddie did make a series of efforts throughout the process to influence the decision, and we should be grateful for his commitment to the legacy of SF film in sticking with it despite the collapse of his working relationship with the Castro' owners.
It's a sad day for lovers of classic cinema, which is being slowly but inexorably squeezed out of existence as an in-theatre option across the nation.
