It would be fun if someone put together a late-50s/early 60s B-noir series that delves further into this material. Eddie is starting to do so, but it appears that he's sticking mostly with the low-hanging fruit (while continuing to "mix it up" for Noir Alley).
Wonder if Dave Kehr at MoMA would "gut it up" for a Cahn retrospective. "Auteurism" still seems to be the primary organizing principle, so that might be the way to cluster these films together in a way where they can be seen on a big screen. In the case of Cahn, he goes back to the early 30s with several notable titles (LAUGHTER IN HELL, AFRAID TO TALK, RADIO PATROL, EMERGENCY CALL), which might give him enough "respectability" for a Manhattan gig. Of course there is a landfill's worth of material from 1950 on from which to choose--I'll leave that discussion wide open, as it's clear that several of you are even more "gung-ho" on Eddie C. than I am.
Of course, a Lavine-ian version of this show could start with FEMALE JUNGLE and push all the way up to the mid-60s. Elliot had one series about ten years ago that covered a solid little expanse of this territory, but there is room for something more definitive. Suggestions for titles to be included are welcome here!
