Well, its a long story, but to make a long story short, I have my man-cave finally. So I should be getting back in to model building shortly. My baby left home to go to college and the other baby is shortly moving as well so grabbing the bull by the horns, I've laid claim to one of their bedrooms and have been moving stuff in it.
Damn - do I have a lot of unfinished projects or what? I have a commission build that I'll be working on; a MER Models Lafayette Class SSBN for a coworker of mine who was an FTB onboard USS Ulyssees Grant. The kit is 1/350th scale and I've never seen any of their stuff before so we'll see how it goes. I'll keep you all posted.
For me, I'll be finishing up a submarine base diorama complete with floating dry dock and crane ship. My attempts to knock out some 1/72nd Air have met with disaster but hey - thats what I get for buying stuff from garage sales.
Somehow I missed this thread before - good to see you again.
LOL re: Garage Sales. Glorified garage sales - the local model shows, plus the "on-line garage sale" known as eBay - is where 75% of my entire stash came from. But I still can't blame this for why my builds drag on and on: the fact is, I will chop up/convert/customize a perfectly decent kit anyway, stretching it out into a months- (if not years-) long project!
I am sure I know exactly which room is your new Man-Cave: I can see you getting a whole lot of work done, in there (more convenient to the bathroom sink, too). Again, as for myself I am totally lacking in excuses - since (basically) my entire house has always been my Man-Cave! Except that these days (yet again) I have to relocate completely - after I find a new rental that will allow it.
Between the packing-up and the moving, what I'm down to are just two active projects: 1) molding the hull of my converted Revell New Jersey (1/535 scale), to produce an upgrade for the flat-bottom-boat, and 2) converting a MonoGram P-40b TomaHawk (1/48 scale) into a P-40e KittyHawk. In between organizing/packing, moving stuff (into storage) and looking for a new place to move to, I snatch an hour- or an afternoon or two of work on one or both of these, as permitted...
Maybe I'll snap/show some pics, if I get a chance sometime soon.
Cheers,
- Matt

working on a 1/426 scale Arizona by building torpedo bulges, redoing the shape of the bow & underneath the stern & installed a whole new deck. got the upper half of a 1/350 benson\ gleaves destroyer from a member on modelwarships.com for cutting down in length a gearing class destroyer to a sumner class destroyer 1/350 scale. he also sent a medium size box full of ship parts & pe including 2 1/350 scale twin 5"38cal enclosed gun mounts. as I don't like water lined ships I lengthened the benson\ gleaves hull to make into the uss porter after it was modified with dual purpose 5" guns & building the lower half of the hull using a modified bread & butter method to allow that lower hull to be hollow.
Yes! Can't wait to see photos n/t

Very interested to see what corrections you make to the Revell Arizona, buddy. It's one of those kits I always thought looked quite believable, so - without any particular expertise/good references on the Pennsylvanias - I never realized until recently that the kit wasn't quite right.
Likewise, I never realized the Benson/Gleaves' - about which I love everything related thereto - that they were that close to the Porters - about which I really don't know much, at all - and would love to see more on that, too.
Got your pics - Thank You - but was working on some pics of my New Jersey, so will get to them shortly...
