How long before dynamic pricing reaches the EFL?

Already being used for concert tickets, flights, car parking etc.

Surely only a matter of time until club's eye another way of adding to the coffers.

In the age of 'hyper personalization' we will see alot more instances where there is 'your price' rather than fixed or tiered pricing. It's not going away.

Yeah I saw something about that the other day. More fucking dystopian bollocks to look forward to. Aided and abetted by the data centre that you didn't want behind your house surveilling everything you do so they can screw a few extra quid out of you while they use up all your neighbourhood's electricity and poison your water supply. The coin eyed techy cunts.

We're no longer friends if that is the future you are helping to build. We need to return to hand looms and the horse and cart and bartering.

              The future? It's the now.

I've had no time for the horse and cart since a horse slipped on ice and killed my great grandparent in Park Street.

                Sorry about your great grandparent.

The individualised pricing thing though, how does it work? Are they really pushing prices up for people based on what they want to buy? And if so how is that even legal? Doesn't that stray into victimisation?

Dynamic pricing is based on demand. Hyper personalization is more about you and what the company knows/models about you. Customer segmentation has been going on for years but now it can go to a much deeper grain, for example, using RFM or RFME (Recency, Frequency, Monetary, Engagement) for evaluating and scoring you. However, I would also say companies use <1% of the data that you generate because they don't know what to do with it yet. For example, if you do a GDPR request, ask your car manufacturer where you have been, or your TV manufacturer what you have watched and they probably won't tell you. Not because they don't have it but they collect and store it in a way that doesn't identify you.

Yeah but are they starting or planning to use it to screw a few extra quid out of people? Because if they are that is obviously morally dubious and opens up a whole can of worms.

I'd imagine we get to a point where much of it is used, but not all, and not just for pricing but other things.

Now I think about it, dynamic pricing isn't so new either, circa 10 years ago I helped build a pricing engine for a service, and part of the design included an 'events' database that dynamically pulled in 'events' like concerts or football fixtures and adjusted price tiers accordingly. Sorry.

            Exactly this^^^^

It is a form of dynamic pricing and I'm struggling to think of any EFL club that hasn't used it.

Thankfully we're little old Luton so our games tend not to really the higher category fixtures for most clubs. Supporters of the glory boys must hate it though but serves them right for not supporting a smaller club on their doorstep. There are always loads of smaller clubs who would value the support and income of more fans from disenfranchised fans within a few miles of every big club.

Should imagine it would be suggested/trialed in the Premier League first, before it cascaded down through the EFL.
