The 3 Pompey and Wednesday loans
Posted by Toast on 13/5/2026, 9:22:45
Seems like Pompey in the end wonder what brown actually does.
Ali, again blows hot bit mostly cold with little quality end product
Yates, mixed but most fans seems to think ok at wednesday
These will all be on good money will any be with us start od season
Brown certainly won't be, he's already been announced as being released at the end of his contract.
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd be open to Alli and Yates staying if their attitudes are right and the wage structure allows. They both ought to be good at this level, and I agree with Alien below that in a better team with more confidence they would look different. That could be us next season, after a full pre-season to embed Wilshere's tactics. But if they don't want to be here or are too expensive, then I'd be more than happy to get rid.
Yates is the worst footballer I've ever seen at KR. I include all opposition players, subs, mascots and underage county final teams I used to play in and watch back in the day.
Think you may be forgetting some of the absolute dross from the conference years... Yes, he didn't perform for us, but there is clearly a player in there somewhere. His scoring record in the Championship over the past 5 seasons is:
8 goals for a team which finished 16th 14 goals for a team which finished 23rd 8 goals for a team which finished 14th 10 goals for a team which finished 19th 4 goals in half a season for a team which finished 24th
Not prolific, but a regular scorer at Championship level, even in teams which weren't very good. In theory it should translate to being at least a 15-goal a season striker in a good team at League One level. For context, only 7 scored more than 15 this season.
It's also worth noting that even when he didn't perform for us, he went on loan to the league above, not the league below. He's not a bad player, but it didn't work out for some reason. Could that be reversed? I don't know.
tbh even if we had Harry Kane up front, he would have struggled to find the onion bag for us for most of this season, as we seemed to have forgotten how to set up chances for them. Something JW alluded to in his recent video.
I don't think either of them are in JW's plans at all. Neither seem to fit into his style of play, and I'd be amazed if they are here when the window shuts.
It's harder to judge players in struggling teams. If they played in better teams, with more morale, then they would look different. They took all the trees put 'em in a tree museum
