Premier League wage cap coming in?
Posted by Poster from the past on 27/10/2025, 20:17:23
Anyone else heard about this? They're calling it anchoring, and will limit all clubs spending to 5x the bottom club's income. First time I have heard about it but sounds like could be a good idea.outlaws is not the barometer of sanity.
Was mentioned a few seasons ago I think it was put out there when we were a premier league side.
It is working off the lowest clubs revenue from TV money.
So roughly all clubs are gonna have 500odd million to spend but that is on fees, wages and agents fees as such so soon the days of players being sold for 150 million a time will be over.
Imagine if we had spent just a sixth of that money on some players we might of managed to pick up the 6 points needed to of stayed up that year. But alas we are languishing in league 1. 7 points from top spot
Yes I agree. But the principle of a wage cap is definitely a good idea. The days when Jimmy Hill fought to have the cap abolished were dark for not acknowledging the players enough. Unfortunately now things have gone to the other extreme and overpaid players, in my opinion, are one of the biggest problems in football. You can still have very well paid players with a wage cap. But no longer to the extent that it makes the football pyramid disproportionately lop-sided and leads to clubs existences being risked by owners gambling for a slice of the big time. Ultimately I would like to see safeguards developed that make it far less likely, if not impossible, for wreck less spending that risks clubs going bust, and equally importantly a much narrower spread between the richest and poorest clubs purely in the interests of keeping the game truly competitive and therefore truly interesting.outlaws is not the barometer of sanity.
Premier League won't implement a wage cap whilst other leagues do not. It would reduce the number of top international players coming and weaken their product.
Yes most likely. It needs a global implementation presumably led by FIFA, so won't hold my breath. But at least there is a discussion beginning.outlaws is not the barometer of sanity.
I have fuck all faith in any measures that the PL suggest to try and make it a fairer game so have no onions on this matter except to say that all PL players are vastly overpaid. And dont give me any bullshit about short careers blah blah blah.
The best thing that could happen is for them to all fuck off somewhere else for their super duper whoopee doo fucking tourist league, the cunts.
