Power Court - promised land/vanity project BS
Posted by BoydCrowdersCollar on 17/8/2025, 11:47:21
From last season and now this one as well (always after a defeat) there are people popping up here and on Twitter decrying Power Court building/potential expansion as GS vanity project or us ‘sacrificing success on the pitch for the so called promised land’
Power Court surely IS the promised land? We’ve been after a new ground since my Dad’s time (mid 60s) and I’m sure before too. We’re nearly there.
The football has been pretty negative for the past couple of years, but I never thought we’d ever get to the Prem after that day at Notts County and I didn’t even hope we’d get a new ground in my Dad’s lifetime after all the shit with Jayten
Things have been shut, but I find the accusations of essentially theft and skimming against the board and GS in particular unnecessarily nasty and surely libellous ?
Levy and Dein got Spurs and Arsenal brand new stadiums and European football. Our Temu version of that is Championship, challenging upwards and a new stadium. I’d take that in the next couple of years.
To me PC is the number one priority for me always has been, let’s be honest the Prem was an expected bonus, and that bonus has give us a redesign ground in on go. We are never going to compete in the upper tier without it( we will never win it either)
We are 3 games into a division , that is only one below where we have always naturally inbeen.
Yes last season was a shit show, and it’s making it doubly hard for me to take interest this year.
It could get worse before it gets better, it’s Luton, it’s what we’ve done, for the last 60 odd years.
I’ve been very critical in recent months of the board and in particular, Gary who I think should’ve resigned or fired after the latest relegation.
The one thing I cannot criticise for is the capacity of the stadium. I strongly agree with the approach.
This is not a building for today it’s tomorrow and many tomorrows. It’s for the next 50++ years.
We need to have a reset - a “Project 2030” of sorts… promotion back to the Premier League by 2030/31. Ambitious, but why not. Such project needs to come with significant investment on the pitch… I’d argue £25M of additional Equity up to that season. The board have openly said that they’ve not pumped any equity aside from COVID related costs, since before that period. During the non league years, the board invested about £10M underwriting losses. If feels time that there’s a fundraising period again.
If we have a capacity of 18,000 or slightly over, we fill it straight away. And there’s not much room to expand.
Doing it straight away can longer term save money. And we’re not going to go any higher unless the profile of the club changes.
Football has never been so popular as an attended sport in the U.K. In fact, sport in general has never been as possible as attendances broadly grow across the spectrum.
I don't disagree that the accusations are ridiculous - however, for the vast majority of fans the club's success is based on how well the team is playing, whether its entertaining, and where we sit in the pyramid - not that the river Lea has been successfully rerouted or a substation moved.
Power Court is the promised land but it shouldn't define us.
Whilst Fuck the FA is now outdated it was a much better mantra to get behind. We need to find another.
