Happy birthday to John Ryan. Seeing that reminded me of the other John Ryan who must have the best stats as a Luton player for their first 3 matches, with an aggregate score of 14-3. A 0-5 win at Exeter on his debut (when he set up 3 of Tge goals), 5-3 at home to Doncaster and then 4-0 at home to Workington. Pity for him that he was always in the shadow of Graham French at that time.

Thanks for posting the RADSB. Completely forgot about this night but not the Man City game. I went as a teenager with 2 of my brothers, very unusually on a coach! What was riding on it and all the press coverage the whole week, favourite moment as a Luton fan.

Derby away for me. I missed the City game.
I agreed to do a walk across Scotland - Morar to Montrose in the Ultimate Challenge - before the WBA game early-ish in the season. We were safe at the time and doing quite well so I thought/hoped the end of the season would fizzle out. We lost at WBA and also the next 6 or 7 games and dropped right into the mire.
I couldn't let me mate down so I did the walk, setting out on the Everton 5 1 home loss day. 120 miles later and it was Sunday morning after the City game and I didn't know the score. We came across a telephone box in the middle of a forest so I called home - it was 6.30am and it took ages for an answer - my sister.
I asked her the result and she hesitated as she was waking up. She eventually said yes you won. Unconvinced I asked her who scored? Err, err....a foreigner she said. Was it Raddy? Err, Err... ANTIC? Err, err.. Oh ANTEESH Yes yes ANTEESH Get in.
Tha put a spring in my step for the last 60 miles to Montrose. Mr J.C. Lomax having been called upon to give his opinion upon the proposed formation of a Town Club, said he was most emphatically in favour of a proposed Luton Town Football Club - 11th April 1885

We lost at WBA and also the next 6 or 7 games
After West Brom. we went on a "losing run" of one game (Forest at home) before drawing at home to Arsenal - I spent the previous night (Guy Fawkes Night) sitting in a queue outside Bedford Post Office waiting to post my entry for the third London Marathon. I joined the queue straight from work on the Friday evening and, even at that time, was 176th in the queue. By the time the Post Office opened at 7 am on the Saturday morning, there were several thousand in the queue.
We drew two of the three games after that as well so, although we went six without a win after West Brom, it was three draws and three defeats.
