To be fair a lot of people do take the p*ss by trying to take on rucksacks the size of a small car, and then insisting on shoving them in the overhead locker rather than under the seat.

I flew from Manchester to Wrocław for a long weekend a month ago and everyone’s bag was checked just prior to boarding at both end - I thought at the time that there’s obviously been an instruction sent out as I fly pretty frequently and it’s the first time it’s happened.
One other little oddity (and I don’t know if this is unique to Poland) is that I was photographed on entry and on exit. I know there’s new requirements coming but that’s the first time that has happened to me outside the USA.

Got stung for £48 of which £3 was added for arguing, £1 for each comment I made. Had I been travelling on my own I’d have made more of it. The wheels made it slightly too big!! Not a problem I have had with other airlines. Not going to let this drop. The article explains what they are up to.

i had dealings with Swissport at Gatwick and that was a dreadful experience. At check-in in our two pieces of luggage were just under the 20kg allowance, the check-in agent then instructed me to empty my backpack cabin luggage (that was within the allowance) and place the contents in my checked luggage. The agent then instructed me to place the luggage back on the scale, and it was now 21kg and overweight. The agent then voided my boarding pass and instructed me to visit the access baggage desk and pay the extra cost, and they would then issue me with a new boarding pass. I went to the desk to pay the extra cost and explained the situation, and showed the agent my empty backpack. The agent's response was to issue me a new boarding pass with zero charge. Airports are a licence to print money and are always thinking of new ways to drive up revenue and rip off the public. I spent 20 years working for an airline, and it dreadful what is going on now.

The cost of their flights are cheap and so it is necessary to pull it in from elsewhere I suppose. .

They and Ryanair should put a bit more on the price and stop pissing everyone off with all the extras.
It really is that simple, if all the airlines were honest with their pricing it would save a lot of headaches. The journey leads you to the answers..
