League One Player Exemption Rule
Posted by Bt20 on 3/7/2025, 12:14:40
Has to be an advantage if we can keep the better players at the club.
"In League One, pre-existing player contracts are treated differently under the salary cap rules. While the overall team salary cap is set at £2.5 million per season, contracts signed before the introduction of the cap are effectively treated as if they were at the league average until they expire. This means that even if a player is earning significantly more than the average, their contract doesn't count fully against the cap until it's up."
Be interested to see how this rule applies to a player who has their wage cut due to relegation to L1 ? Does their new wage apply? It will still be lot higher than most in the league.
Sure many of our squad have taken pay cuts after relegation, which is why they want out I’m sure.
