"In League One, pre-existing player contracts are treated differently under the salary cap rules. While the overall team salary cap is set at £2.5 million per season, contracts signed before the introduction of the cap are effectively treated as if they were at the league average until they expire. This means that even if a player is earning significantly more than the average, their contract doesn't count fully against the cap until it's up."
