Born in Round Green and grew up in Stopsley. I didn't choose my team, it chose me. Remember getting truly hooked when our class teacher announced that anyone who wanted to stay after school could listen on the radio to the second half of the Blackpool cup replay, in which Allan Brown scored the only goal. Cup fever really gripped the town that season.

After much begging, my dad took me to the home game against Arsenal next season. I'd been to Luton schoolboy matches at Kenilworth Road on Saturday mornings, but being in a packed ground for a Division One game was an experience I shall never forget. After that I was allowed to go to games with my mates, always using the number 4 bus, which was every 10 minutes. We went regularly through the drop down the divisions, until the inevitable rise began. Happy days.

Everybody talks...
Some hear...
A few listen...
Almost nobody understands...
