Which includes 4.5 million children.
Nearly 2 million pensioners
and nearly 8 million working age adults of which well over a third are in employment of some kind, and just over half have some form of disability.
That suggests to me to that the problem isn't benefit fraud or scroungers, but that people simply don't have sufficient income to pay their way.
So, whilst it's a huge number to be on benefits, a fairer society would necessarily reduce that number fairly rapidly. So, the problem returns to being the super rich, once again. But the politically right wingers would rather blame the poor, the homeless, and the immigrant.
