One match played today and that was 52 years ago today in 1974. The Hatters drew 1-1 at home to Southampton in the Texaco Cup (a competition that ran from season 1970/71 - 1974/75, before becoming the Anglo Scottish Cup the following season).

This match also featured the debut of Paul Futcher, as a substitute in the last 30 minutes of the match. It was to be December 1974 before he started a game for the Town, but after this he became a fixture in the team for the rest of that season and was the most stylish defender I’ve ever seen play for the Hatters. A major accident halted his career and after his comeback he was then transferred to Man City. He sadly died of cancer in November 2016, at only 60 years old.

One player has been born today and that is Matty Pearson in 1993. He played 136 games for the Hatters, scoring 10 goals, between 2018 - 2021.
