    On this day

Firstly, thanks to all those that took part in the poll yesterday, as it’s good to know others are reading and interested in my daily messages. Whether the outcome reflects the cohort of supporters who read the website I’ll leave others to judge, but it is interesting to note that the Newcastle game had nearly twice as many votes as the Oxford game.

    Matches played: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/matches?played-today=yes&sort=date-desc

    Born today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?born-today=yes&sort=date-active

    Debuted today: https://hattersheritage.co.uk/players?debut-today=yes&sort=date-active

A special match took place for many of us 25 years ago today, with it being the first match that Joe Kinnear took charge of the team. Appointed 2 days earlier the team went to Northampton and won 1-0 with a goal from Stuart Douglas.

5 players have been born on this day, with the first being Harry Crump in 1873. The other 4 players are Alan McBain (born 1940), Trevor Peake (born 1957), Arnaud Mandy (born 1990) and finally Lasse Nordas (born 2002). Doubtful that Lasse reads this message board, but happy 24th birthday to you anyway.

4 players have made their debut for us on this day, with the first being W Toyer in a 4-0 defeat at Millwall in 1913. It also turned out to be his only first team game for the club. The next player to make his debut was not until 60 years later, when Derek Hales played in a 2-0 away defeat against Brighton in 1973. The other 2 players to make their debuts on this day were Richard Dryden & Keith Rowland in the aforementioned match at Northampton in 2001.
