We will never know whether Alli would have impacted the match to lead us to a more positive result so there is little mileage in debating that.
However, the situation was that at that moment Alli was walking a fine line and had he made one more mistimed challenge the ref would have had little option but to send him off. It may have affected the result differently, it may not have.
Crucially though it would have meant that Alli would have been suspended and that is something that we can probably not afford to have happen currently with the squad as it is.
