The entrance to Lawler Street is shown, the shop on the corner showing "Value" is King's grocers. Note the two women crossing over by one of the Linacre Road tramline loops - There were 'Loops' in Bridge Road as well.

My mother was sent a cheque from the War Office, it was a War Gratuity payment and her husband's back pay KIA 7/11/1943 - Battersby (butcher) cashed the cheque for her. Liggetts had the best broken bisquit selection on Linacre Road - Fades from Toners too. Liggetts was where 'Sight Savers' is on this image. Proctors Pawn Brokers was next door on the demolished corner site, they moved to the corner of Lily Road. A sorrowful sight - A once very vibrant road for shopping. Hang your head in shame Sefton Council

I thought everything stayed the same but actually looking back now shops did move around a bit. The first block as I remember it, and I'll probably miss some out. Co-Op, Bills, Barbers, BonTons, Mabels, The Taylors. Lawler St.... Kings, later to become the bookies as it became legal. T was the bookie as I remember it. Still not sure of order but there was a chandlers, off licence, laundry? then on the corner of Hinton St the best bread shop for miles around,Masons.
