My thanks to Norma for mentioning this little booklet. I'd not heard of it before and really enjoyed reading it. 99p well spent!
I was struck not just by the authors memories, some very familiar to me, but by the changes since it was written in 2000.

Jean it was Kate or Eileen who put the link on the site,I have sent it to my brother who now lives in a little place outside Oldham,Why do so many of use leave,I did try to get back,Mac did get a job,but I didnt want to leave the council house we had ,My dad had found out he had cancer,couldnt move in with them with a young child time till we found a place to rent,I am still living in the same house,we did buy it off the council,hoped to sell it after 10 years and again move back,

Thanks for the link, Jean and also for Norma in finding the interesting read and so very like my own memories.

My Mum would take my 2 older brothers to Tom Jones's too and sit outside having lemonade. (author same age as my older brother)

The horses that were set free from the Matchworks when it was bombed must have been terrified.

Horses in a stable at the Bootle end of Hornby Boulevard weren't so lucky during one air-raid. I have a report of the incident, a Litherland man was of of several who were awarded for their bravery during that bombing.

I've attached a page from the 1939 Register showing her address and parents.

Hi, have you been following the site on Facebook for Litherland History. It's very good as each photo has been restored to it's best and the history of the photo is added when possible. We still have a few cottages and scenes that haven't been recognised only for the name of the road. You could be an excellent member as you have also been a keen local history addict for years. It was your site that encouraged my interest in the area. I'd been interested in family history since 1976 but not so much locallly. I hated History at School, it was always about Royalty and remembering Dates, the Tudors etc.
