Some years ago my son wasnt happy when houses were built on what was farm land,I told him people needed houses,but it took me back when they started building the houses in ford,I walk across to work in crosby but one road was blocked off,with the new houses,

Did the ever build a police station,Maybe they expected all the tough kids from the other side of the lift bridge,when moved to Ford,sorry only a joke,

To answer your question, Yes - It wasn't manned all the time though.

We had 2 policeman living by us in Four Acre Drive - One we called Smiler, all the kids hated him.

I was that tough, I went to bed without a vest on, and the further you went down our street the tougher they got - I lived in the last house.

That could have been the policemen and they wives my Mum and Dad would meet for a drink at Toms,

Hard to believe it was nearly 67 years (1958) ago we moved up to Ford.

Still remember it clear as anything travelling up with my Dad, younger brother and Gyp our dog in the back of one of Armstrong's pantechnicons - My Mum and sister got the bus up to Ford

I had the honour of having the first bath once the water had heated up
