The Gala committee picked the Queen or invited judges; the judging was usually held at the Town Hall. One year it was held at the Coliseum Picture House, the Queen being chosen by the council chairman and his wife. The retinue was from a different Ward each year.

The last Gala was held in 1973,the Queen being Lesley Harrison.
