Litherland History was recently given a 1902 diary which was found many years ago in the ruins of a demolished house in Alexandra Mount. It was written in pencil and very hard to read but something on every day. Ed said he would scan it and enhance the writing and then asked for volunteers to transcribe it. Six of us took on the challenge and had two months each. I have now completed my two months I took November and December and I did a few days at a time and have now finished. It has been so interesting I have given myself the job of trying to find all the people mentioned in the Diary. I am using the 1901 Census for this, this census has given us the name of the author as no name was in the diary and the siblings were only an initial. We found that it was the Isaac's family of Number 7, Alexander Mount. The parents are Samuel Isaacs 56 and Agnes Ann 49 and the children were Agnes Mabel 24, Margaret Winefred 23, Samuel Charles 22, Mary Edith 20, and Isabel Rose 13. The Diary mentioned the family by the Initials and we realised that they were the second names and not the first names which were rarely used. So we had W. C, E and R and the I we thought was Isabel was the I for Agnes Mabel. I will put a copy of 12th and 13th Decembeer for you to see. And then show you my transcription.
